Peregrine Ventures Managing Partner Jake Yu Advocates for Global Systemic Change at the United Nations’ First-Ever Summit of the Future
New York City, September 23, 2024 — This week, global leaders convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City for the inaugural Summit of the Future, a pivotal gathering aimed at addressing the most pressing challenges humanity faces. As a key stakeholder, Jake Yu, Managing Partner of Peregrine Ventures, represented the impact investing community, advocating for transformative action to shape a sustainable future for all.
Among world leaders, Yu emphasized the urgent need for bold, systemic changes to address climate change, food security, forest protection, and ocean management. “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape our world,” Yu stated. “The economy of 2030 and 2040 must be dramatically different from today’s. While economic growth has delivered great benefits, it has come at too high a cost to our planet. We need to decouple human progress from our environmental footprint, and the window for meaningful action is closing.”
Yu, energized by the summit’s future-oriented agenda, called for a synchronized global effort that brings together governments, businesses, innovators, and communities. He stressed that incremental changes and half-measures will not be enough to solve the global crises facing humanity. “If we are to quicken the pace and scale of change, we must pursue new strategies and invest in bold concepts,” he urged. “This requires transformative global governance—an approach that unites all sectors in a coordinated movement to tackle the challenges ahead.”
